“Bring photo ID” is too vague to be reliable casino advice in Spain. The venues checked all control entry, but they do not publish exactly the same document list. The useful question is whether the casino accepts your specific document for your visitor category.
Why the passport is the safest common tourist choice
Casino Barcelona currently tells non-EU tourists to present an original passport. Gran Madrid accepts passports for foreign visitors and also accepts qualifying EU identity documents. Casino Mallorca directs international visitors to use a passport.
That does not make the passport the only document accepted everywhere. It makes it the least ambiguous recommendation when you want one document that works across the examples checked.
EU travellers: when a national ID card is enough
Casino Barcelona currently accepts an original national ID card or passport from EU citizens. Gran Madrid also publishes acceptance of valid photo identification issued in an EU visitor’s country of origin.
If you do not want to carry your passport, this can be a practical alternative — but only after checking the exact casino.
Why a driving licence is not a safe fallback
Casino Mallorca explicitly says driving licences are not accepted. The other venue pages used here do not establish a driving licence as a universal tourist admission document.
If it is the only original photo ID you have with you, verify the casino directly before travelling.
What about a photograph of your passport on your phone?
A digital copy is useful as a travel backup. It is not the same thing as the original admission document. Casino Barcelona refers to original documents, while Casino CIRSA Valencia tells visitors to present a physical original DNI or passport.
Why the answer is not perfectly uniform across Spain
Land-based casino access sits within regional rules and venue operating procedures. That produces a broadly consistent adult-access principle without one identical public-facing document list at every casino.
This is why we treat ID as a venue-level fact. A visitor should not be told that one operator’s document rule automatically applies to the whole country.
What to do when the visit depends on one casino
- Open that casino’s current admission page.
- Match your nationality or residency category to the published document list.
- Take the original document.
- If the wording is unclear, contact the venue before making the journey.
Once ID is solved, check the two other common failure points: dress code and whether the game you want is actually open when you arrive.
